I have always groomed my own dogs and cats. At age 15 I got my first professional grooming job, working for a place called "Dogs Beautiful" on Roosevelt Road in Kenosha.
After graduating from High School, I joined the Air Force, working as a medic for thirteen years--more than five years of that in emergency rooms. This netted me the title of Physician's Extender, and that experience helps me spot health problems in dogs.
In 1988 I left the Air Force and decided to enter the business world. I spent four years in college, studying accounting and business. At the same time, starting in 1989, my husband and I began showing Bouviers. Since we had all the equipment and experience, our neighbors, friends, relatives, and co-workers approached us about grooming their dogs.
I spent some time working for other groomers before deciding to open my own business.
I've never looked back!
Although I certainly love grooming our top-winning show dogs, I especially enjoy doing "make overs" on mixed breeds. Along with other local groomers, I lend a hand and groom some of the dogs at the Safe Harbor Humane Society.
I can't imagine not working with dogs.

Jean Rabe is a fantasy author with two dozen books and more than four dozen short stories to her credit. She dabbles in web page design as a hobby. She shares her life and home with three dogs: two Bitzers (bits o' this and bits o' that), and an American Water Spaniel . . . rescue dogs all. She can't groom dogs, though she's tried with disastrous results. She's great at walking them and playing with them, however. She usually writes with the three of them wrapped around her feet and chair, and occasionally with a parrot on her shoulder.
Gary has been breeding and handling dogs for almost three decades. He started out with cocker spaniels. Since then he has shown springer spaniels, Shih-Tzus, Labrador retrievers, malamutes, whippets, wire fox terriers and of course our Bouviers. Gary is also the co-owner of House of Faisons, and Jean says he is the backbone of the business. He is the 'bather' and also is the pick-up and delivery guy.
Faison's Jean and Gary are certified in Emergency First Aid for pets.
